The University Library adheres to the Washington and Lee University Privacy Policy for all of its Web services. Web services from the University Library are provided through library.wlu.edu, annie.wlu.edu, and illiad.wlu.edu. Automatic Information Collection

Our servers automatically collect information about your Web browser, proxy or firewall servers, and other relevant information about your browsing session on our site. We use this session information--including your Web browser vendor and version, the operating system you are using, and the IP address of your computer--to help us better design and structure our Web site. In the event of a security breach to our servers, we may provide this information to the relevant state and federal authorities.

To gather Web traffic information the University Library uses Google Analytics, which places a cookie on each visitor's machine for each session. For privacy reasons the statistics gathered by Google Analytics do not include individual IP addresses or other individually identifiable information. Individual visitor access is represented by the name of the individual's Internet service provider (ISP). Statistical information is stored on Google servers for two years and we use this information for comparative purposes.

Personal Information

The University Library does not collect personally identifying information about individuals who visit this Web site, unless it is voluntarily and explicitly submitted (for example, when filling in a form on the Web site or sending e-mail to Library staff ). If you choose to provide personal information, the Library will take every reasonable measure to ensure its privacy. We do not provide any third parties with any personal information voluntarily provided through our Web site, meaning we do not sell, rent, or market personal data about you to third parties. We do not collect credit card information on any of our Web sites.


In an effort to provide better service through our Web site, we may store small amounts of information on your computer through the use of cookies.
